COMPETITION RULES

TYPES OF ENTRIES

Solo: 1 Dancer

Duet/Trio: 2 or 3 Dancers

Small Group: 4-9 Dancers

Large Group: 10-19 Dancers

Mini Line: 15-25 Dancers

Line: 20+ Dancers

Production: 15+ Dancers

MUSIC

Solo: 3 minutes

Duet/Trio: 3 minutes

Small Group: 3 minutes

Large Group: 4 minutes

Mini Line: 5 minutes

Line: 5 minutes

Production: 8 minutes 


Props are limited to 3 minutes for set up and tear down. There may be a penalty resulting in points taken off for every 5 seconds overtime. 


All music must be uploaded via your studio's registration and assigned properly.  All studios must bring a USB with backup music in the event of a music malfunction. 

AGE DIVISIONS

Tiny: 6 & younger

Mini: 7-8

Petite: 9-10

Junior: 11-12

Teen: 13-15

Senior:16-18

Adult: 19+


Age determined as of January 1st. Age of group will be determined by the average. Groups can be moved up an age level but never down.


COMPETITION DANCE LEVELS

Novice

Intermediate

Competitive

Elite


Novice Level:

  • Little to no dance/ competition experience
  • Maximum of double pirouette
  • No consecutive turn sequence 
  • No consecutive tumbling passes
  • No tumbling where hands do not touch
  • No tumbling with full or half twists
  • May only enter 1 solo in this level
  • Cartwheels, roundoffs, front/ back limber, front/ back walkover, valdez, handstand, head stand, chest roll, chest stand, and variations of the above are all acceptable.

Intermediate Level:

  • No longer a novice, but not quite at the competitive level
  • Has competed for 2-3 years previously
  • No more than a triple pirouette
  • No more than a single leg turn
  • No back needle
  • Side aerials, front/ back handsprings, head springs, and tinsicas of all variations are all acceptable.  No tucks or tumbling with twists of any sort.
  • Fouettes and turns in A La Seconde are acceptable. No switch spot turns of any sort.
  • May enter 2 solos in this level

 Competitive Level

  • Has competed and danced for years, but not quite at the elite level
  • No limits to pirouette turns
  • No more than a double leg hold turn of any sort
  • No limitations of contortion movements such as a back needle
  • Fouettes and turns in A La Seconde are acceptable. No more than 1 switch spot turn of any sort.
  • Front/ side aerials, side baranis, front/ back tucks, ½ twists are acceptable tumbling moves.
  • May enter 3 total solos

Elite Level

  • Has the highest level of dance and competition experience 
  • No limits for turns at all 
  • No limits to tumbling at all 
  • Dancer understands that this level is meant for personal growth and to push their limits
  • May enter 3 total solos


*Groups must enter in the level of the highest dancers if 50% or more are in that level. If only 20% of the dancers are elite and the rest are novice, the suggestion would be to enter in intermediate or competitive, but that is not a requirement. Groups may enter in higher levels than the average level of dancers but never a lower level.  Duets & trios must enter in the highest level a dancer is in.  Solos will be automatically placed in a level.

*Judges will bump a solo, duet/trio, or group up in level if deemed necessary. Please try to enter dancers appropriately. 

DANCE GENRES

Acro: A routine containing acrobatics movements and tumbling. Routine must contain 50% dance technique and choreography.

Ballet: A routine containing classical ballet movements and technique. Absolutely no acrobatics allowed in this category.

Character: A routine done in character shoes.

Clogging: A routine containing all clogging techniques.

Contemporary: A routine containing a mix of jazz and lyrical technique with unusual movements.

Hip Hop: A routine containing only hip-hop technique, movements, and tricks.

Jazz: A routine containing jazz technique

Lyrical: A routine containing ballet like movements with emotions to the lyrics of the song.

Modeling: A routine consisting of Run-Way type movements, modeling a certain style of clothing, hair style, and/ or makeup.

Musical Theatre: A routine that depicts a character using dance and dialogue movements.

Open: A routine that is made up of several different dance styles, or one that doesn’t fit into the other categories.

Pointe: A routine using pointe shoes and showcasing ballet technique.

Pom Dance: A routine done with poms showcasing different uses of the poms and proper movement.

Special Needs: A routine consisting of at least 50% of the dancers who qualify as having special needs. 

Tap: A routine done in tap shoes, showcasing tap technique.

SCORING CRITERIA

SCORING:

Each entry will receive a total score out of 300 points. Each entry scored will be scored using three judges.

The following criteria will be used for scoring:

POINTS:

Technique: 1-45

Execution & Showmanship: 1-45

Costume & Choreography: 10


ADJUDICATIONS:

FEARLESS Diamond:
Elite (295-300), Competitive (294-300), Intermediate (293-300), Novice (N/A)

Platinum:
Elite (286-294.9), Competitive (285-293.9), Intermediate (283-292.9), Novice (282-300)

High Gold:
Elite (279-285.9), Competitive (277-284.9), Intermediate (275-282.9), (Novice (273-281.9)

Gold:
Elite (272-278.9), Competitive (268-276.9), Intermediate (265-274.9), Novice (264-272.9)

High Silver:
Elite (271.9 and lower), Competitive (267.9 and lower), Intermediate (264.9 and lower), Novice (263.9 and lower) 

FEARLESS TITLE CRITERIA

FEARLESS TITLE CRITERIA:

·  Must be entered in Competitive or Elite

·  Placed in Top 10 with Solo

·  Received a Platinum or Higher

·  Acts kind to others back-stage and anywhere seen by Fearless staff.

·  Outstanding Stage Presence

·  Nominated by Fearless Judges

·  Voted upon by Fearless Staff based on overall impression.

          If a tie happens, dancers may be asked to perform a 30 second improv dance to decide the winner.

·  Very high and prestigious honor to be chosen for the age group of the highest levels.
*Opt in option at no additional cost.

FEARLESS DANCER CRITERIA

  • Places in the top 10 with Solo
  • Acts kind to others back-stage and anywhere seen by Fearless staff.

  • Voted upon by Fearless Staff based on overall impression
  • Very high and prestigious honor to be chosen for the age group.

STUDIO OWNERS/ DIRECTORS

WE WILL ONLY COMMUNICATE WITH STUDIO OWNERS/ DIRECTORS:

  • No dance parents may contact us. All contact must go through a studio owner/director.
  • No refunds will be given for any reason, only studio credit. In the event Fearless has to cancel a competition due to matters beyond our control, a refund will be issued to the studio. 
  • Studio owners will be emailed a Hold-Harmless form to be filled out, signed,  and returned before the first day of competition.
  • All rates are available on the studio registration site only.
